"Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall." Prov. 16:18
When I was a sophomore in college I thought I had the college thing down. I talked the talk, walked the walk...yeah, I was all that. I knew my way around. The first day of classes everyone was scrambling to find where they were supposed to be. Some of the classrooms had gotten switched around and people were confused. My classroom had a note taped on it with the correct room so I proudly announced to the group gathered, “Everyone follow me! I know where to go”. I am awesome. I had a group of about 20 people following me down the long hallway and amongst that group was a young man whom I had a very large crush on. I was talking loudly and attempting to say something clever that he would overhear when all of a sudden I tripped and fell flat on my face. This was no ordinary fall...its not like I caught my balance and kept walking. I was flat out, spread eagle...face eating dirt. Thankfully I had worn a skirt that day so that flew up as well. I looked up to see if everyone had seen me and the boy who I had a crush on was standing over me making the baseball motion for ‘Safe!’ So I have found, yes indeed, pride comes before the fall.
